His father was a successful local businessman and his mother was the daughter of a landowner. Shakespeare is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language and the world's pre-eminent dramatist. He is often called England's national poet and nicknamed the Bard of Avon. He wrote about 38 plays, 154 sonnets, two long narrative poems, and a few other verses, of which the authorship of some is uncertain. His plays have been translated into every major living language and are performed more often than those of any other playwright.

Marriage and career

Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway at the age of 18. She was eight years older than him. They had three children: Susanna, and twins Hamnet and Judith. After his marriage information about his life became very rare. But he is thought to have spent most of his time in London writing and performing in his plays. Between 1585 and 1592, he began a successful career in London as an actor, writer, and part-owner of a playing company called the Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men.

Retirement and death

Around 1613, at the age of 49, he retired to Stratford , where he died three years later. Few records of Shakespeare's private life survive. He died on 23 April 1616, at the age of 52. He died within a month of signing his will, a document which he begins by describing himself as being in "perfect health". In his will, Shakespeare left the bulk of his large estate to his elder daughter Susanna.

His work

Shakespeare produced most of his known work between 1589 and 1613. His early plays were mainly comedies and histories and these works remain regarded as some of the best work produced in these genres. He then wrote mainly tragedies until about 1608, including HamletOthelloKing Lear, and Macbeth, considered some of the finest works in the English language. In his last phase, he wrote tragicomedies, also known as romances, and collaborated with other playwrights.
Shakespeare's plays remain highly popular today and are constantly studied, performed, and reinterpreted in diverse cultural and political contexts throughout the world.

Early life

William Shakespeare was the son of John Shakespeare, an alderman and a successful glover (glove-maker) originally from Snitterfield, and Mary Arden, the daughter of an affluent landowning farmer.He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, where he was baptised on 26 April 1564. His date of birth is unknown, but is traditionally observed on 23 April, Saint George's Day. This date, which can be traced to a mistake made by an 18th-century scholar, has proved appealing to biographers because Shakespeare died on the same date in 1616. He was the third of eight children, and the eldest surviving son.
At the age of 18, Shakespeare married 26-year-old Anne Hathaway. On 27 November 1582 the Consistron Court of the Doyce of Worcester issued a marriage license. The next day, two of Hathaway's neighbors guaranteed the bond, saying that no valid claim obstructed the marriage. [26] The Worcester Chancellor allowed the wedding ban to be read once rather than the usual three times, [27] [28] and six months after the wedding Anne baptized a daughter, Susanna, after which the ceremony was somewhat hasty Was held. 26 May 1583. [29] The twins, Hamnet and daughter Judith, were baptized nearly two years later and on 2 February 1585. [30] Heimnett died of unknown causes at the age of 11 and was buried on 11 August 1596.

After the birth of twins, Shakespeare left few historical traces until noted in 1592 as part of the London theater scene. This exception is the presence of her name in the "complaint bill" of a law case before the court of the Queen's court. Westminster dated Michaelmas Term 1588 and 9 October 1589. [32] Scholars have referred to the years between 1585 and 1592 as Shakespeare's "lost years". [33] Biographers who attempted for this period have reported several apocryphal stories. Shakespeare's first biographer Nicholas Rowe narrated to a Stratford legend that Shakespeare fled to London to stand trial for the deer poaching at the estate of local rebels Thomas Lucy. Shakespeare is also believed to have avenged him by writing a derogatory saga about Lucy. [37] [35] In another 18th century story, Shakespeare began his dramatic career with the horses of a theater patron in London. [36] John Aubrey stated that Shakespeare was a country school master. [3 Shak] Some 20th century scholars have suggested that Shakespeare may have been appointed as a school master by Alexander Haughton of Lancashire, a Catholic landowner who took the name of a certain "William Shakesfight" in his will . [38] [39] Little evidence corroborates such stories other than the hearings collected after his death, and Shankshaft was a generic name for the Lancashire area.
London and theatrical career
It is not known for certain when Shakespeare began writing, but contemporary alliance and performance records suggest that many of his plays were on the London stage until 1592. [42] By then, he was known enough to be published in London by playwright Robert Green in his Grotes-Worth of Wit:

... there is an upstart Crow, embellished with our wings, that with a tiger's heart wrapped in a player's hide, she believes she is capable of bombarding an empty poem as you: and one Being a complete Johannes factum, in its own conceit is the only shake-scene in a country. [43]

Scholars differ on the precise meaning of Greene's words,  but most agree that Greene Shakespeare had such university-educated writers as Christopher Marlowe, Thomas Nashe, and Greene himself Were trying to match. The so-called "university intelligence"). [65] The italicized phrase "Shakes-scene" as well as a parody of Shakespeare's "VI, a line wrapped in a woman's hide in the heart of Tiger," of Shakespeare's Henry VI, part 3, is clearly Green's goal. As Shakespeare. As used here, Johannes Factotum ("Jack of All Trades") refers to the second-rate tinkerer with the work of another, rather than the more generic "Universal Genius".

Green's attack is the earliest surviving mention of Shakespeare's work in the theater. Biographers suggest that his career may have begun sometime in the mid-1580s, just before Green's remarks. They have their exits and their entrances;
And a man plays many parts in his time ... "

In 1599, a partnership of company members built their theater on the southern bank of the River Thames, which they named the Globe. In 1608, the partner also took over the Blackigars Indoor Theater.
